hosts the famous California Avocado Festival annually during the first
week of October. Many of its 13,000 residents enjoy the proximity to the
ocean without the higher price Santa Barbara County beachfront
properties tend to fetch. Surfers like Kelly Slater own homes a few
miles more south along the world-famous surfspot Rincon.
